And pecked you on the finger, because you are holding its feed.

And then a GM approached you, slapped a dozen-page booklet into your hands, and asked you to make a character accordingly, for we are going to run a module in a new system: PathfinderTM
Link to the initial reading material is as follows (links to a free download pdf file):
http://paizo.com/products/btpy89m7?Pathfinder-Adventure-Path-Council-of-Thieves-Players-Guide

Rather than throwing a core rule book at you, I would like to refer you guys to this website: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/
This is the unofficial online index of rule information, accessible for free (of course), and should be easier than to find the book itself. I recommend starting with this page: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/character-creation. I further recommend anyone who are interested in creating a character of the classes Barbarian, Monk, Rogue, and Summoner to use the Unchained version ( http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes). Personally I prefer if you stick to the 11 classes presented in the Adventure Path Players' Guide, but if for some reason a class listed in the OGC really speaks to you, go for it.

Ability score will be determined by point buy, with 15 points.

During Character Creation, everyone is entitled to generate at most 1 contact, who has a small amount of trust in you. If you are willing, come up with that character's role in the city and how you met each other, I'll decide the contact's attributes and adjust things accordingly. I need to emphasis the "small amount of trust in you" part. They shouldn't be doing your bidding without some kind of negotiation between you two.

Come up with your character sheet and I'll collect it, somehow...

As per usual, game will be run in roll20 assisted voice chat.

Contact me if there's anything you want to know about the run.

As is the case with many in Westcrown, Naya was born to a noble family, one of several vying for power in the burgeoning city. As is also the case with many in noble families, she was born a Tiefling, and shunned by her relatives. At an early age, her father finally decided she was too much of a liability and Naya was turned out to the streets, to live a live with no surname and no wealth or power to speak of. Thanks to the assistance of a local street urchin, she was one of the "fortunate" ones who learned to live off the impoverished areas of the city as best she could. Morally loose and without any care except herself, she would have continued on to become nothing more than your average street thug had her parents not conceived and born a second Tiefling sibling.

Of course, the second child was dealt with in similar fashion and Naya found herself with something completely alien to her: a family. Soon she found herself obsessed with keeping her new sister alive, a task that was made all the more daunting by the young child's inability to come to terms with life on the streets. Still, Naya managed, somehow, to feed both of them, honing her skills with the blade and hand all the while.

It was not to last though. Soon the violence and decadence that plagued the city caught up to her tiny world, and her sister died in a desperate struggle in the street. Blaming the officials and government who allowed so much violence and bigotry, Naya gained a completely new outlook on life, one she is still unsure of to this day.

Tiefling Unchained Rogue
STR: 10 DEX: 17 CON: 12
INT: 14 WIS: 14 CHA: 7

I am building a skill-focused character. She will still be competent in combat but not a powerhouse and definitely not someone who can take on a monster head to head without help.

INTRODUCING RIZI

Rizi's Character Sheet

Half-Orc Ranger
STR: 14 DEX: 18 CON: 12
INT: 9 WIS: 10 CHA: 9

Rizi's contact is Kivga Thindrasdottir, a travelling dwarf blacksmith and fletcher who crafts her wares in a small village near Citadel Rivad. It wouldn't be surprising to see her cart as far north as Westpool. Kivga may be a good source of rumors or discounts.

David let me know if anything needs to be changed. Also I just feel that it needs to be said that I will always love the D&D setting, but fuck Pathfinder. Fuck it right in the ashigaru.

RIZI’S BACKSTORY

The bearded young bounty hunter extended a hand under the overturned wagon. “It’s all right, young one,” he said. “Come out.”
The half-orc child crawled out, her knees sliding in the mud, her body shaking, eyes wide, taking in the corpses of her small tribe and the scattered fires that marked the ruins of their camp.
“Did you see which way the goblins went?” The man asked.
The girl shook her head.
“Well, I’m not leaving you here alone. What’s your name?”
She shook her head again, terrified.
“Then I’ll call you Rizi. My name is Baren the bounty hunter. You’re mine now. Come on.”

10 YEARS LATER

Baren didn’t turn away from the fire when the door opened. “Why are you here?” he asked softly.
Rizi stood in the doorway, pulling the soaked ends of her fox hood tighter to her body. “Please, father. It’s been three days.”
“Do you have the head of the minotaur?”
“No, father. I tracked him through miles of sewer and lost him in a reservoir.”
“I don’t understand, Rizi. Why would you come back with nothing to show for yourself?”
“Because …” Rizi snarled away a tear. “I’m hungry.”
Baren turned suddenly, one hand yanking the hot fire poker away from its place. “You’re hungry?” He shouted. “You want me to buy you food? Food costs money!” He stepped forward and swung the poker overhead; it struck her shoulder and she whimpered. “You haven’t brought in a job in weeks!” Another blow, this one hit her hand where it was covering her head. “You’re a disgrace to our profession.” He raised the poker for another blow, but paused. Then he tossed it aside. “I should have left you under that wagon.”
She bared her fangs at him and roared. The fangs were still just coming in. Pathetic, like the rest of her. He laughed. She clapped her mouth shut. “I’ll find that bull,” she said. “And when I do you’ll owe me a feast.”
“We’ll see,” he said.
She turned and rushed out of the room.
Baren turned back to the fire. “Useless piggart,” he muttered.

SIX YEARS LATER

The moment Kivga Thindrasdottir looked up from her anvil and saw Rizi standing alone in her hut, she knew something was wrong.
“What happened?” she asked, flicking a long red braid off her face.
Rizi smiled at the dwarf, but her eyes carried no joy. “I’m just here for ten barbed arrows.”
“Baren never lets you into town alone,” said the dwarf.
“Baren won’t be letting me or not letting me go into town from now on. Or anywhere else for that matter.” Rizi’s words were quiet, ominous. Kivga saw fresh bloodstains on her boots; a tear in the old gray fur hood. She pulled a pouch of barbed arrowheads off the counter and tossed them to Rizi. “On the house,” she said. “About time someone took care of that bastard.”
Rizi’s fangs bared involuntarily for a moment. “I’m sure I don’t know what you mean,” she said. Then she turned and quietly walked out of the hut.

(Note to DM: I did pay for the barbed arrows on my character sheet).
