Encounter - The Mysterious Temple

Attempting to weaken these unknown foes, Aileia unleashed a probing magical attack on the first berserker while Kurogane attempted to flank them from behind. Using his signature miss everyone maneuver, Kurogane unleashed a flurry of blows that did just that. Kuros and Nevi had more success, as their attacks seemed to penetrate whatever weak defenses these berserkers possessed.

With a flat statement of "Ha! You aren't the only one who can unleash the power of PAIN," the first berserker proceeded to strike fiercely at the minotaur, dealing a staggering blow that easily dropped him to the ground gasping for air. Seeing the apparent fall of Kuros, the second berserker redirected his attacks to their second source of trouble, Aileia.

Kuros

Kuros grinned at the bright world around him. So many nice butterflies. Suddenly, as if by dark magic, a goblin appeared charging. Kuros lowered his horns, charging with a primal bellow, the fiend explodes in a burst of red blood, revealing a goblin staring Kuros in the face. Kuros gets to his feet, and attacks this oddly familiar foe.

Using a definitive ability to multitask, Aileia simultaneously struck a blow against berserker 2 while sending a wave of healing energy to the dying minotaur, who promptly attempted to stand up and continue to fight, and then was promptly beat down again by the first berserker. Kurogane frantically abandoned the obvious threats facing the party to resuscitate his fallen comrade but to no avail, as his healing skills were decidedly lacking. Nevi, for once the more sensible member of the party, turned his attention to finishing off the foes pressing in upon them, striking a lethal blow to the second berserker.

The remaining enemy shifted away from the mass of PCs and lunged at Kurogane, narrowly missing the strangely attentive monk.

Kuros blinked his eyes. Surprised. His mother stood before him. She smiled and opened her hand. Butterflies flew across Kruos' face. He closed his eyes and smiled as their wings gently caressed his cheeks. When he opened his eyes his mother had turned into a goblin. Kuros leaped to his feet, a greataxe appearing in his hands. He struck down the goblin with a mighty shout, but there were more.

DM's Note: Due to my expert and totally-experienced opinion indicating that letting B1 live despite maintaining a measly 4 health would add very little enjoyment to this otherwise thrilling encounter, I have decided that he will suffer a heart failure at the end of the round

Continuing their assault, Aileia unleashed magical force in an effort to stamp out the remaining warrior, narrowly missing him. Kurogane abandoned Kuros in an effort to finish the fight, but once again his attack missed, the will of Amaterasu apparently having deserted him. Kuros slumbered on, muttering things about butterflies and "mommy," while Nevi struck another failed blow at the warrior.

The warrior apparently shared the curse, as his attack missed Aileia before he slumped to the ground, apparently succumbing to his wounds.

Nevi Tashar

Nevi Tashar lowered his orb and sagged against the corner, noticing for the first time that he had a throbbing headache and was standing in a puddle of his own blood. He took a few minutes to bandage his injuries. That was close - too close. But after those goblins had hacked him up he'd managed to let his Tashar soul run things for awhile. The Nevi soul got weaker as his body weakened ... interesting ... and even as he patched himself, he could feel Nevi returning.

"Now," he said to himself, "to defile the puppets." He searched each body haphazardly for anything of value.

"I...I'm way over my head, I need meditation." As he said, Kurogane sat down on where he was and started meditating, healing himself in the process.

The bearded goblin who had been serving Kuros vanished in red mist. He was back. Coughing blood violently. Kuros took a deep breath and began bandaging his wounds as his rage magically cured him.

"Might I suggest we rest. For a bit."

The party took advantage of their relative peace to patch up. Nevi rifled through some of the enemies, finding some gold and trinkets while Aileia investigated the door leading to what appears to be a main chamber of some sort. Kurogane began meditating in the middle of the room.

Nevi Tashar

Nevi found a few bits of gold and a small health potion, which he tucked away for later use. He was exhausted; the thought of further combat daunted him. But maybe fighting exhausted would help his Tashar soul stay in control. "Come," he said to the rest of the party, "there are more foes behind that door."

Guys, I think we should head to the Nishigawa monastery after we're done with this cult. This ruins seems like a creation of the Ancients. We'll need to hear Master Masuda's wisdom on this. But let's first rid of these deserters of the gods."

Leaving Kuros to sulk in the corner, the party turned its attention to the room itself. Kurogane seemed to have some sort of epiphany. As he told his story, Aileia continued her examination of the door right in front of Nevi. Her fingers brushed lightly against the door's central crystal. Seeming to sense her subconcious desires, the crystal turned green and the symbol changed.
