Encounter - The Mysterious Temple

Aileia quickly stows her crossbow, distracted by the runes lit across the walls and pillars throughout the room. She turns to the door behind her and begins to examine a line of runes.

"Have you seen this?" she asked the others in awe. Then she remembered the horned monster she had fought beside. She turned around quickly to see it binding its wounds in a rather civilised manner. However, she still feared she was alone in her interest in the runes.

Walking slowly towards the others, Aileia raised her hand in a friendly greeting. "Greetings, fellow adventurers. My name is Aileia, a scholar and a researcher of the Tenarian shard. What brings you here?"

"Stuff to kill" Kuros snorts at Aileia. "Can you get us out?"

OOC: Quick question. When posting in RP threads. Should we wait until each member has posted? Or post freely?

Nevi's efforts seem to be turning up little fruit, aside from the weapons the warriors were carrying.

Nevi abandons the bodies and takes an interest in the runes Aileia is studying. "... puppets?"

Arcana Check 28 to identify the meaning and purpose of the runes.

"You're the ones with the key, aren't you?" Aileia asks Kuros. "I've been here for weeks and I couldn't get the door open. Translated and recorded half the outer walls before I found a section about the crystal key. Those in the village weren't very forthcoming about where I might find it though, and the scripts haven't got any hints that I could decipher."

Aileia turns to the pillar on her left and slides her finger slowly across a rune, brushing the dust from it.

Nevi, nearby, suddenly seems to take an interest in the runes. However, Aileia is too focused on her own to pay too much attention to what he's doing.

"It would take me several more weeks to translate this. And even then, it may not give us the way out. My best bet is to use that crystal key again, to see if it works." She looks at Kuros, perhaps since he's the only one (despite being a minotaur) who seems to be slightly sane.

"Most temples, especially one as important as this one, have intricate security systems. Most likely killing the guards triggered a trap, sealing us in. And the only way out now... is in."

"The puppets didn't write this, you know," says Nevi smugly. "Aliens wrote it. Long-time aliens. And also: the nice lady gave ME the key."

"Hmm, I think I've seen it before, actually. By the way, I'm Kurogane, from the Nishigawa monastery, located on the Rokugan shard. But it's of no importance, we must get to the other side of the gate!!! There are more cultists!!!! Their mere existence is a Blasphemy to the great Amaterasu"

"Kurogane..." Aileia sighed. "Actually, he's probably right. We DO need to go on." Aileia sweeps across the room towards the door on the opposite end, then pauses for a moment to examine a line of runes. "I saw this one outside the temple..." she mutters.

Turning round, she looks at the boy who's been muttering about puppets this whole time. "We need you to use your key."

As Nevi pulls the crystal key from his bags, the party members who saw it earlier notice that rather than the bright blue color it once boasted, the key is now a distinct black color.

Nevi tosses it aside casually. "Wrong one," he remarks, and returns to rummaging in his pack.

"Magic trinkets always look the same" mutters Kuros. He begins picking his teeth useing his greataxe as a mirror.

Aileia bends down to pick up the stone cast aside by Nevi and examines it. "What do you mean, 'Wrong one'?" she asks slowly. "Was there another? Did the guards have a key?"

Perception check 20+8 to see if there is anything in the runes about how to open the door.

"These runes would take too long to translate; I highly doubt any of you carry enough provisions for us to last even days, let alone weeks, in this room. However, I do think I have a solution."

Aileia bends to look at the locking device on the door. She examines the lock and plays with it experimentally, then sighs, disappointed by the crude mechanical device. "It's a mechanical lock, not a magical one. The minotaur should like that. We need someone either crafty enough or strong enough to break it. Would someone like to try?"

Aileia gives a rather feeble attempt to shove it open (Strength check 17)

The door is solid, but it does appear to yield slightly to the force of the impact.

Frowning slightly, Aileia glides over to the door on the North side of the room and examines it. "I suppose if your sole goal is to kill these guards, we should check the other doors as well."

Perception check 21 on the door to see if there are guards behind it.

History check 20+11 on the Nishigawa monastery and the Rokugan shard in an attempt to discern what the hell is wrong with Kurogane.
